Excepts of my life

Does the beauty of Dorothy's ruby slippers charm you still? It charms me! Sometimes, I'm so incline to click my ruby slippers together...
One...
Two...

Three...

And find my way home! But where is home if not right here?
I don’t know how this is possible, but my husband knows my thoughts without me having to say a word... just one look at me and he knows. My closest friends pretty much can tell how I’m feeling too. I'm fairly transparent. My joy is obvious; my bummer days are evident. Shabby or chic—I guess after a while my readers are able to tell too! It happens when you have a blog. Although I try by best to the very best to always always put forth my best face, there are times when life can get pretty hairy (literally speaking too - lol), and you just kind of forget how to sing.

...and so I have a feeling you already know how I’m feeling lately. But, of course, this is no secret—it happens every first semester of every year from January through March. It has something to do with the weather and the sun, or lack of it. It is call SAD, or Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as winter depression or winter blues, and it can be pretty nasty at times. My dear friend Ilva understands this, she knows how gloomy skies make me beg for color, and she’d been busy making something for me to chase the blues away... she knows how much I love scarves, and has made me this lovely scarf in the perfect deep blues and baby blues (perfect blues that have nothing to do with the other kind of 'blue')... it feels so warm and soft around my neck, and I just love it!

It’s cold and dismal outside, and then... there’s that other issue too. But inside the house it feels warm and cozy, true love dwells among our days, and for a minute or two the faintest sun had shone over the mountains and into our nest. I was able to capture the moment in memories. And those are the blessings I want to focus on today.

Be warm, and don't forget to dream...

  1. Cielo,
I think SAD hits everyone to a different degree....it is almost over, days are getting longer. After yesterdays rain I can now see the ground in places and it is MARCH now.
I love your stockings and shoes, you make me smile. Your spirit is wonderful.
    Big hugs,
    Donna

  2. Hi Cielo,
Oh no, please don't feel blue..winter is a beautiful time. I love the winter even the rain, I love sweaters, fires and warm soup. Its a wonderful time to sew a quilt or crochet a blanket, work on a project around the house before it gets to hot. You have a beautiful spirit so let it shine, don't keep it in the dark...
Have a sweet day and big hugs, Elizabeth

  7. Well this is sad to hear, but it is a real thing. I have a friend who uses a lightbox for treatment and he swears it helps. Hoping spring comes quickly and with it, lovely sunshine.

  8. Hi Cielo,
We are through the worst-spring is on the way! Soon we will be out enjoying new life in the garden-you sooner then me as we have tons of snow here yet.
I enjoy my visits here and you always bring a smile to my face.
I have heard that omega 3 oils can help winter blues.
    Take care,

  10. Hi Cielo Sweetie...
SAD is what brought DH and I to the desert almost 27 years ago. In Oklahoma he went through it every year. He loved the outside and the sunshine. We have had our share of the cold this year here in Phoenix, though even a couple of freezes. I am happy to say the sun is supposed to be here all week. I need my Vitamin C. I will soak up some rays for you sweet one.

I love your new blue scarf. Your precious friend did an awesome job of capturing just the right colors for you. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Now I have got to tell you, I love those red shoes, and the hose, oh my exquisite, and so you. A beautiful table vignette as well. Thank you sweet friend for the beautiful share. As always I love coming to the House in the Roses.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry

  11. I know that feeling! I do not do well with the gloominess of winter days...and long for the sun. Your scarf is absolutely beautiful..you wear it well...as you do everything. And I LOVE your shoes...how cool are those babies???

My husband is like that too...sometimes it is spooky. Once we were driving across a bridge and I was THINKING -I wonder how deep that water is...and he SAID....It's about 7 or 8 feet there. I asked...WHY did you just say that...and he said...WEll, I thought you asked....see? Skeeeryyy! I need to mind what I think, I guess! lol

Hope you have a sunshiny tomorrow! xxoo Diana

  18. I think SAD is fairly normal, plus it follows on the heels of the holidays, which does not help! You just have to choose everyday to ignore it and focus on the blessings, like your lovely new blue scarf!!! I want one!!! :D

Cielo, you are such a lovely person, and I hate to hear that you have been feeling a bit down. Cheer up, because MARCH IS HERE!!!! YEA!!!!! :D

I hope you have a blessed Wednesday! And please know that your blog, that *you*, have brought me lots of joy, especially as I have been recovering from illness and surgery.

    You rock, Cielo!

    xoxoxo,
    Ricki Jill

  19. Hello Cielo,
I understand completely - I have melancholy stages - even when the sun is shining - I think for me it is the knowledge that my life is changing drastically - my youngest will graduate from high school in May - there are more moments when I am completely alone at home - well, save for our dear God - who gives me comfort in knowing me completely and loving me still -

  21. I think SAD is understandable when there's so little light and everywhere is dull and drab...so glad we are in March with spring on its way.
