My kitchen

What's the most popular room in your house?

Without a shadow of doubt, that will have to be the kitchen for us!

Our kitchen is where we start the day with juice and toast, and on Sundays my favorite bowls steaming hot with café con leche on the table, French bread and mermelada de naranja or strawberry preserves.

In our house we love our bread... what would we do without it? No bread means no morning delight. No bread means no French toast. No bread means no breaded anything. Bread is the foundation for blessed goodness like turkey stuffing, eggs Benedict and meatloaf. If it's true that man can’t live on bread alone, also true is that the house in the roses cannot live without it!

Our kitchen is a Magic place, where yummy food adds joy to life, and it is also the place where we catch up with each other and talk about the occurrences of our day while making dinner...

Sometimes, it is also a playground for my fantasies whenever I'm alone... a place for dress-up plays and royal princess parties with a touch of Victorian elegance...

It’s also the place where everyone gravitates during parties and get-togethers. We head to the kitchen when we’re hungry, not just for food, but for friends and family.....

...and it is the place where we unwind at night with a cup of tea.

...or indulge in something out of the oven yummy, like this Salvadorian Quesadilla we made late last night while watching a movie...

When I'm old and gray, I want to have a house surrounded by a beautiful garden in the outskirt of the woods. And write. With a lot of wonderful friends, good books, music and bird songs around, and a gorgeous cottage kitchen to cook and live in.

What about you? What’s the most popular room in your house?

  1. What a great post! Kitchen is definitely the heart of the home, no doubt. I am green with envy about your lilacs. I found out I can't grow them were I moved. I'm trying your recipe as soon as I get to the store. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Wonderful pictures!
I have to agree that the kitchen is the grand gathering place! Of course that goes without saying seeing how that's where all the 'goodies' seem to magically appear.

  3. Oh I love it when the kitchen is the center of everything. To me that totally makes a home. Love yours and that you really enjoy it. Great post. Hugs, Marty

  4. well, being Italian..growing up in my parents house, the kitchen was def. the hub of the household! it's where everything happened....all the talk, all the conversation....even homework was done at the kitchen table. I think that's why i gravitate to the table and enjoy taking my time sipping my morning coffee and flipping through a book or mag. or blog hopping on my laptop!

my hubby doesn't like to spend time in the kitchen, he comes in to eat and then pretty much leaves...i'd have to say his hub is the living room..where the sofa is!lol

i try to get my kids to cook with me, and it often works! they are learning the joys of cooking and the makings of a happy home!

  5. but i forgot to mention my ultimate part of my home....
my favourite is not the kitchen...but my studio...where i let my imagination roam and wander free....setting off creative sparks everywhere!

    ahh...life is good!
thanks for sharing this post...it really hit HOME with me! lol

  6. Such a great post Cielo...as usual. I love the photographs you've shared.

My bedroom is my favorite room. It's like a quiet private sanctuary. There are usually scented candles burning (day and night,) fresh flowers, fluffy pillows, cozy quilts, etc.

  9. Hi Cielo,

By pure coincidence I visited my family home, sold 3 yrs ago. As we went through the house I told them how the kitchen was the most important place of all - secrets shared, wonderful food made, boyfriends kissed, etc.
At present my dining room is the most important as it looks onto the pond and the garden. Our kitchen is tiny. For the rest it is the most wonderful place to be!
I love your post and the beautiful photographs. You are very creative!
    See you!

  25. Cielo, your little vignettes with all the different foods & teacups are just so wonderful. We both used lilac in white pitchers this week! I wish they lasted longer, though.

Our kitchen is the heart of the home, too. The sunroom/table area is everyone's favorite spot to gather. I totally agree with you on how you feel about bread.

    Very pretty presentations!

  29. Sheeeeeze, gooooood thing you don't have to be gluten free like me!! Man what I wouldn't give for REAL bread!! I even made my hubby some Irish Soda Bread today, since I haven't made it for ages and we were reading a mystery book that had to do with Irish Soda Bread. He was craving it. HOWEVER, I did loose my original recipe and I did try to find a tiny recipe since only he can eat it!! We will see if the recipe was any good when he comes home. Love your pics and your lilacs!!

Thanks for your sweet comment. I enjoy looking at your blog as well! I hope it's ok if I add you to my blog roll in the side bar?

Enjoyed your kitchen post. Together with our bedroom and living room it is one of my favourite rooms in our house as well. I just cannot decide which room I like best. It's too difficult :-)!

    Happy weekend!

  31. Cielo, what a wonderful post and a beautiful blog you have. It is a pleasure to have you join us at Vintage Recipe Thursday. The kitchen is one of the important rooms in our home too, and it is open to our family room which really makes a nice, cozy and welcoming space for family and friends to gather. We love bread too, and you'll want to participate in my 3rd annual bread roundup coming up in the Fall. Have a great Thursday! :-)
