Regrets or no regrets?

Have you ever let an ingenious moment make you do something that you knew was stupid?

Oh yes, I tend to do that very often. “Live life with no regrets”--I keep reminding myself, but sometimes, that doesn’t work... You see, wanting to transform that which is already perfect, is simply stupid... like what I did to this chair I bought a while ago...

It only cost me $5.00, and yes, it was tattered, and weather worn, and yes, it was imperfect... but so lovely just the way it was. Unfortunately, I thought I could make it look prettier than it already was...
And the transformation kept going...

And going...

I try so hard for perfection that I usually tend to forget that imperfection is happiness... Yes, some things are better left untouched... don’t you think so? I sure do! A diamond with a flaw is worth more than a pebble without imperfections.

Which is more like you? Do you usually regret the things that you have done, or do you usually regret the things that you have not? Perhaps, it’d do me some good if I stick to the wisdom of Rabindranath Tagore: I leave no trace of wings in the air, but I am glad I have had my flight.”

  1. One of my dearest friends once laughingly told me, "If it weren't for my mistakes, I'd have no life at all!" I thought that was so wise.. especially in some of our cases. She and I both had failed marriages, but from them we found our greatest loves: our children. Your chair was beautiful in the "bones" stage in your beautiful garden. I love what you did to it, as well... Everything Cielo does turns to golden sunshine waiting for her garden to emerge again!!! Hugs and no sad regrets!

  3. Hi Cielo...long time since I stopped by. I know what you mean... sometimes when I am decorating one of my cakes..., or other handmade creations...knowing when to stop..is the hardest. Perfection can be simplicity. I do however love how the chair finally ended up...although it looked beautiful in the garden too! Hugs!

  6. Must say I love it both ways... In the garden definitely worn, but painted looks perfect inside! I just admire any accomplishments that one is able to make. And working on projects and finishing them is amazing!

  7. You may have regrets, but what is past is past and you have learned from it. What would life be without lessons?
I think the chair is still very lovely.

  9. Now that I am older I do look back at things that I regretted doing and not doing. I now try to say to myself " You can't change the past, but you can change the future."

As far as the chair is concern, I love every look that you had.

  10. Hi Cielo,
Well, I only regret things that turn out worse that I thought they would! But you've got to keep trying, and changing and improving. Can't stand still or you're not really living. At least that's how I see it.
I like the chair, you did good.
Thanks for the invite, I'll try to join you next Monday!

  11. I still think your chair turned out pretty, but I understand what you mean. Most times imperfections is better than perfection. That's what keeps everything interesting and different. Great post!

  12. I dislike regrets, as much as I dislike guilt.

So I would say, just be happy you had fun fiddling with the old chair.

  13. Oh I love the chair. Is that fabric you put in the back or a picture. Whatever it is I just love it. I don't think you ruined it at all. I think it is just perfect.

Thanks or inviting me to show my housein your "Show Off Your Cottage Monday". I think I have shown it so many times that everyone has to be really bored with it by now. It's so small, and not many rooms to show. I will think it over. Thanks for the invite and thanks for always leaving such fabulous comments. Hugs, Marty

  14. Hi Cielo
Who doesn't regret at least one thing that's happened in their life? You just have to move on and make the best of things.
I love the new look of the chair and thanks for stopping by LC to say hello.

  15. I like the chair both ways, but I totally understand where you are coming from. Lets see....??? What can you do to the chair so that you are smitten with it again? Maybe, some weathering? Let nature have it for a few days and nights??? See what the fairies want to do with it? I know that you like to put furniture out into your flower beds, like I do. Maybe, if you put the chair back out into the elements, it will become what it wants to become and you will be delighted with the outcome.
    Isn't living so much fun?
    Have a wonderful evening.
    hugs

  20. I think you have the best of both worlds. You enjoyed your chair tattered and then you had the pleasure of making it into a thing of beauty. I think it is called having your cake and eating it too. Have a lovely week. Stella

  21. I most often regret what I did not do. Or rather what I was not able to do. I am often limited by my health, so I do what I can. I have the talent, just not the strength. But I agree with you quote in way.... better to have had a short flight than none at all.
