Dear friends and readers of The house in the roses, I wanted you to be aware - this morning I received an email from a dear friend of this blog telling me that she received some kind of a "link", apparently sent by me, and when she tried to open it the virus security on her computer popped up and said this was a bad virus. If you see something weird sent by me, please know that that's NOT me. Quickly delete that email and ran your software. I don't know why things like this happen, and don't know if I should change my email. Have any of your experienced something like this before? Not sure how to procede here...
Cielo
I had the same thing happen to me and I did just what you have done, I told all my peeps to watch the subject line and if it was "real" they would be able to tell by what the subject was. I didn't change my email and I think it isn't happening anymore anyway not as much.
ReplyDeleteCielo... I had my email hacked a while back too and it send out nasty rotten emails to everyone in my address book on the computer and said they were form me!... go in and CHANGE your password... that should take care of it, and PLEASE ladies, don't open any attachments from anyone, even someone you know, if you think they may not really have been the one to send it... xoxo Julie Marie

ReplyDeleteIt happens all over.I received such mails from friends, which I KNOW they would never send. Often it is just a link and that triggers ?? marks for me. SO I never open those strange looking emails, just delete them.
ReplyDeleteHi Cielo,
ReplyDeleteI haven't had that happen to me. I do get these fake emails in my spam filter a lot. i run software all the time, because we had a bad experience with viruses quite awhile ago. So I'm really proactive about protecting my computer. I just never click on anything suspicious, even i f it's from a friend. I'm sorry that happened. Thanks for the warning!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
I have recieved 2 from a friend on blogging the past 2 weeks and the same thing happened... I am glad I had everything updated and it did not effect my computer.. the second one I was smart enough not to open... As you say you know it is someone who would never tthink of doing you any damage that it is coming from... Good luck....
ReplyDeleteYour Pc was probably infected with a virus, which got into your Address Book, and basically make your computer into a robot... Sending out SPAM to all, in your Address Book.
ReplyDeleteHow to proceed?
Get off Pc's and get a Mac! They don't get these SPAM, virus, worms or be made into a robot, for some weird-o.
~♥~
Thank you for this warning dear friend.
ReplyDeleteI'll be on the lookout. It's a shame that we even have to do this.
ReplyDeleteDearest Cielo,
ReplyDeleteOften it is caused by some of the gadgets on your blog... or even from some button with a hidden trojan virus. You have to be very careful in putting things on your sidebar. Out of jealousy people can hurt you or for whatever reason.
So maybe you remove and check out everything that's on before putting it back.
MarĂa Cecilia from Casa Dulce Hogar once complained she couldn't get into my blog and got a warning there was a virus. My action was to remove almost everything and I'm very critical since than; it never happened again. Let's hope we all stay safe! Your blog is too beautiful for having any kind of problem...
Lots of love,
Mariette
I'm so sorry this has caused you trouble, Cielo, but maybe changing your password would be the best thing. I think it's wise you're posting on this.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and continue to be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I can feel the love....gives me a sentimental feeling. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI also received an Email from you with this virus...Isn't it sad that there are people doing something like this...and WHY..So stupid!
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago I had the same trouble only there were Emails send in my name...saying by this or by that The Dutchess did so too..etc. I changed my mail adress and password just to be safe.
I Always enjoy your beautiful posts dearest...Don;t let this stop you..!
Stay warm and stay happy..T.D and Company.
Ceilo,
ReplyDeleteIt looked so real!!!! It looked like an innocent email from you! Nothing suspicious... And when I tried to open the link... the computer told me that the website I was looking for could not be found... That is when I emailed you & you told me that you had not sent it out but, to look at your post. Just a note... I had just that week added the button with the HTML Code for Show Off Your Cottage Monday. Maybe that is where the trouble lies... someone has hooked it to the button? Something to check. HUGS! Charlene
I got that email from "you" too..and opened it and was told that there was a Trojan horse attached and viruses. I think most computer have firewalls set up that screen those out before they can do any real damage. And...I don't think it came from your email...although your name was on it. I think someone used your blog and just accessed those that left comments and backlinked them to their own "crap". You just wonder what possible enjoyment someone can get out of doing something like that. When that happens I believe it is because someone/somewhere is jealous of the life that is being lived by others and sets out to destroy happiness that they find...to make others as miserable as they themselves are. Sad that some people have no life outside of causing mischief.
ReplyDeleteI meant to tell you last week when it happened but was so bogged down with work and life that I never got around to it! Hugs- Diana
